Reading guide for lesson 21 (pages 267 276, 290) The blending hypothesis was the idea that genetic material that came from the two parents were mixes. The particulate hypotheis stated that parents pass on genes that keep their identities in the offspring. As you read about mendel"s experiments with pea plants, you will be introduced to many new terms. Define the terms below, and give an example (if applicable): : a heritable feature that varies in individuals. (ie; flower color, hair color, eye color) Trait: each variant of a character. (ie; white or purple petals, brown or black hair, blue or brown eyes) True-breeding: organisms that produce offspring of the same variety through a lot of generations of self-pollinations. F1 generation: the hybrid generation of the p generation. F2 generation: the hybrid generation of the f1 generation. Mendel crossed purple-flowered pea plants and white-flowered pea plants. A light purple almost pink flower would be shown.
