Document Summary
), we want to know which population our results will generalize to. In order for a sample to generalize to its population, the sample must be a representative sample. Population = an entire set of people that we aim to make inferences about. Ex: all students at uc davis, all californians, all us citizens, all people. Sample = refers to a subset of a population. Ex: those taking psc 41, those living in northern californians, those living in. To identify a representative sample we first must identify all individuals within the population, then each individual have an equal probability to be selected. Different types of representative samples: simple random samples = occur when we form a random selection process on all individuals within the population. Ex: let"s say my population is all individuals that live in davis. Ex: let"s say my population is uc davis students.
