Document Summary
Behavior is influenced by its consequence: basic model, the abc model: If the behavior is strengthened then, the consequence = reinforcement. If behavior is weakened, then the consequence = punishment: types of consequences, reinforcement: increases strength of a response. Positive reinforcement: response occurs; consequences: a stimulus is presented; response strength increases: example: rat presses lever; rat is placed in a skinner box, there is a lever and when the lever is pressed, the light glows. When the rat moves around, it accidently pushes the lever and the light glows and he gets food. After a few more accidental trials, the rat deliberately starts pushing the lever and the frequency of light to glow increases. Example: morning alarm wakes you up and you close it. You have a tiring day and then you take a bath, etc. This all is everyday example: punishment: decreases strength of a response.
