BIO 100 Lecture Notes - Lecture 25: Gremlin, Synapsis, Cell Plate
Document Summary
Mitosis: reproduction of cells to produce identical copies of cells. Prophase: first stage of mitosis (things start to change) you can see spindle. Prometaphase: more developed chromosomes (attached to spindle bers) and more developed spindle bers. Metaphase: organization of everything that has formed already, one plane of chromosomes (metaphase plate is clearly seen at this point) Anaphase: cohesion is gone and sister chromosomes have broken apart and are moving around (moving away from each other) Telophase: the cytoplasm divides and there are now two new cells. Cytokinesis: cell plate formation in plant cell, vesicles are forming the cell plate, and ultimately a cell wall will be formed. The reason for this is that the spindles and chromosomes are attached to each other. Clicker question (reference slide 10 for image: there are normal mouse chromosomes in meiosis. Because: we know we are talking about humans.
