Document Summary

Energy introduction: types of energy and their definition (1/14/2019) Even though chemistry is the study of matter energy affects matter. Energy is anything that has the capacity to do work, i. e. the amount of work that can be done by an object is a measure of its energy. Work is defined as the force acting over a distance(displacement) if the object does not move no work is done, by definition. Work=force*distance (si units will be n for force and m for distance therefore si unit is nm) Heat is the flow of energy caused by a difference in temperature. Heat energy can be transferred between objects through direct contact. There are three methods of transmission of heat energy: conduction- heat transmitted via solid medium, convection- transmitted through fluid medium and radiation transmitted through air medium. Kinetic energy is energy due to motion of an object (type of mechanical energy)
