Document Summary

Conversion of light energy into chemical energy. Anabolic/catabolic cycle: photosynthesis traps free carbon, respiration frees trapped carbon. Light dependent reactions: light reactions , produces nadph and atp, requires light, different wavelengths absorbed by different pigments. Extends the range of wavelengths used for photosynthesis: absorbed light excites electrons. Absorbs photons with wavelengths up to 700nm. Absorbs photons with wavelengths up to 680nm. Photolysis takes water and enzymatically splits it into oxygen and hydrogen. Photophosphorylation chloroplasts use this to prevent the accumulation of too much nadph during the day. Result: 1 atp + 1 nadph: cyclic electron flow. In the presence of too much light, nadph accumulates. Used when concentrations of nadph are high. Light independent reactions: dark reactions , uses atp and nadph from light reactions, calvin cycle. Co2 (1c) added to rubp (5c) by rubisco: rubisco the enzyme that fixates carbon. 3c molecules modified (reduced) to form 3c sugars, g3p. 5x g3p are recycled into 3x rubp.
