BIO 200 Lecture Notes - Lecture 12: Wild Turkey, Cougar, Lion
Document Summary
Bio 200_evolutionary biology-lecture 12: ecology: climate patterns, biomes, and niche. The study of distribution (where) and abundance (how much) of organisms. Context of evolution, evolution in current moment. Intimately connected (in many cases ecology causes evolution i. e. one species of finches into 13 species) The forces did not happen in a vacuum (climate and vegetation shape, subtle changes) There were habitat changes and ecological forces now shape the future. Range: where we find and don"t find. They don"t grow in environments they are not accustomed to. This is dependent on the latitude on earth. The equator receive more direct sunlight and concentrated rays (same amount just more concentrated) It all depends on the angle of the sun on the earth. Less atmospheric path than the poles (less space) and the atmosphere absorbs and radiates hotter at the equator and cooler at the poles.
