Kohler observed that growing children advance through de nite stages of moral development in a manner similar to their progression. Kohlberg believed the capacity to reason morally developed along wit cogni:ve development: three levels. Pre conven:onal: stage 1: obedience and punishment, stage 2: self interest orienta:on, stage 2: ethics driven by fear of gerng punished, right or wrong is func:on of reward. Post conven:onal: stage 5: social contract orienta:on, stage 6: universal ethical principle, stage 5: treat others how you want to be treated. Ethical standards for human services professionals: the fundamental values of the human serves profession include: Respec:ng the dignity and welfare of all people.
