It took the chimps a while to realize that the chimp in the mirror was a reflection but once they did, they were entertained and then once again bored. Even with paint applied to the ear and eyebrow, the chimp still recognized the reflection. The test that proved that chimps and other great apes are capable of recognizing themselves in reflections. Who is that baby in the mirror. Baby"s do not recognize themselves right of the bat. The 1st step starts by physical self-awareness. That random movement they make in the crib, that is the baby starting to get to know its own limbs.
