Document Summary

Unit 12: intro to the muscular system: skeletal muscle anatomy. Connective tissue wrappings: epimysium, perimysium, endomysium, collagen fibers, skeletal muscle fiber. Organ that is composed of two or more tissue types that work together to perform a common function. Found mostly in skeletal muscle tissue, but separate and electrically insulate portions of the muscle. Outer layer that surrounds the entire muscle, composed of dense irregular connective tissue. Surrounds groups of muscle fibers, composed of dense irregular connective tissue. Surrounds individual muscle fibers (cells); composed of areolar connective tissue. Found within all three wrappings, form strong cord-like tendons or sheet-like aponeurosis, which attach muscles to each other or to bones. Cytoplasm of the muscle fiber; contains abundant stores of glycogen, and myoglobin. Fluid filled membranous sac that stores calcium ions. Expanded end sacs of the sarcoplasmic reticulum; flank a t- tubule on either side. Formed by the sarcolemma and extend deep into the cell.
