• Innovation & Change:
➢ Organizational Innovation: the successful implementation of creative ideas.
➢ Technology Cycles: a cycle that begins w/ birth of a new technology & ends
when that technology reaches its limits & is replaced by a newer,
substantially better technology.
o Air conditioners replacing fans.
o Cars replacing horse-drawn carriages.
➢ S-Curves & Technological Innovation:
o S-Curve Pattern of Innovation: characterized by slow initial progress,
then rapid progress, & then slow progress again as a technology matures
& reaches its limits.
▪ Point A – progress is slow.
▪ Flat slope – indicates increased effort.
▪ Point B – as new technology matures, researchers figure out how
to get better performance from it.
▪ Steep slope – small amounts of effort will result in significant
increases in performance.
