CDIS 3223 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Birth Weight, Habituation, Dishabituation
Document Summary
Intraindividual differences each infant"s language development is unique and they do not develop all the language aspects at the same rate as their siblings or other family members. Comprehension skills usually precede the expression skills in infants. Aka the kid needs to understand the word before they can correctly use it. Comprehension includes ability to understand the presented word. Expression includes the ability to use the word for communicating own needs/thoughts/intentions. Interindividual differences this refers to the differences in language skills among similar aged children. Not all 3 year olds will be the same and not all. More talking = more language development: variation in language learning styles: Expressive language learners infants use language for social exchange. Their early words include words that help them to express their needs and describe their feelings. Referential language learners infants use language to mainly refer to people and objects. Not as interested in social communication, they are more likely to label things.
