Increase in goal-oriented activity or psychomotor agitation (either at work, school, sexually, or socially) Excessive involvement in pleasurable activities that have a high potential for painful consequences (spending sprees, gabling, sexual indiscretions) Onset: puberty: exception: children 7 years old but can be diagnosed earlier if child expressed depressive episodes, rapid cycling diagnosed in 2-3 year olds. Genetics: familial likelihood expression (genetic predisposition) Having affected first-order relative increases chances of bp by 3-8%
