Regarded as the first of the major presidential wars in american history. +due to its size and involvement in the united nations. +fundamental shift to defending anywhere that hadn"t already had communism. Stalin hoped the attack on south korea would divide the western allies or just sucker the united states into a major war which would use up much of our resources in military strength. +a major war would diminish our ability to defend europe from soviet encroachment. +neither party wanted to expand the united states military again. Korea had been occupied by the japanese and has been a colony for years.
