Republicans took the white house with eisenhower in 1952. We had many more nuclear missiles than the ussr and we had the equipment (bombers) to launch the nuclear missiles. The ussr had nuclear capabilities but didn"t really havse the ability to deploy nuclear weapons. Realized the united states had to expand their attention further than just europe. +this is what the memorandum nsc 68, that democratic secretly gave truman said. Came up with a three part plan: roll back, massive retaliation, local allies (this was the new look plan) Roll back: trying to use local resistance (ideally nonviolent resistance) to roll back or hamper the encroachment of communism. +didn"t" really work unless the united states sent the resistance some sort of aid which didn"t happen because the united states didn"t want are unless it was really necessary. Massive retaliation: if the ussr crossed the line, the united states was ready and to use its nuclear arsenal.
