POL 271 Lecture Notes - Lecture 14: Maxwell D. Taylor, Domino Theory
Document Summary
Keys to democratic foreign policy: warfare, fitness of people, deficiencies (secrecy and patience). The most expensive form of foreign policy and costs lots of lives/casualties. Democracy is for the people and the people pay the costs of war, they have a say in the government. Woodrow wilson made democracy the cornerstone of his plans for peace after world war i because he believed it would promote peace throughout the world. Wilson was made fun of for this because of the failure of the weimar republic and how it led to the rise of hitler and the nazis. Jack levy (political scientist) studied when democracy lead to warfare and when it doesn"t. Levy said democracies fight as much as anybody, they just don"t fight each other, which means wilson may have been right. So far levy"s findings haven"t been proved wrong.
