*quotations never help your grade in writing, it is the analysis of the quote that helps your grade. A quote doesn"t help you because it"s not your words. *quote when: 1) the author says something outrageous or the reader wont believer the arthur said it, 2) of something is profane or deep so you need to analyze what you have important to say about it. It can"t consist the mere report of your opinions. You have to defend the claims you make. You have to have reasons to believe them. *even if you don"t quote a lot you must footnote any time your referring to a position you got from someone else. Example: (descartes,42: if you are using books from outside this class you will also want a bibliography. *in this class we will mainly present and the criticize an argument. A good philosophy paper is modest and makes a small point, but it make that point clearly and straightforwardly.
