JOUR 001 Chapter Notes - Chapter 1: Perfective Aspect
Document Summary
Four types of quotes: direct quote, indirect quote, paraphrased quote, modified quote, direct quote. Used to report word-for-word what a speaker said. These quotes must be absolutely exact and accurate. Few people use perfect grammar, your job is to present subjects the way they are. If your subject can"t put together sentences that sound intelligent, don"t make them sound intelligent. Make sure your quote descriptions include necessary gestures, inflection, etc. Leave out fillers like um, like, ya know": indirect quotes. Present speakers ideas mainly in their words, but not entirely. Just because someone said something doesn"t mean they have expressed themselves well or clearly. Contain a form of attribution but not entirely. It lets you untangle intricate and baffling sentences. It allows you to improve grammar: paraphrased quotes. A reporter"s own words for what the speaker said. No quotation marks, sometimes contains a form of attribution. Readers are entitled to know where we got our info.
