Phospholipids: water-loving (face to water)= hydrophilic phospholipids, water-hating (face away from water) hydrophobic phospholipids. These phospholipids have polarity which is a strong bond that keeps them together. Membrane has a double layer of phospholipids = phospholipid bilayer maintains structure of membrane: keeps the cytosol inside separates intracellular and extracellular fluids. Mainly exist out of water, in the water ions are dissolved because water molecules are polar (one side positive & one side negative)
