Reconstruction: federal program to reintegrate the south 1866-1877. This freed slaves the land so that the blacks could have some. Republicans were the antislavery party but still had radicals vs. moderates. Black codes: laws that are governed what blacks can and cannot do with their daily lives. Republicans did not like the amnesty plan. Freedman"s buro: worked to get all the blacks schools and housing. Citizens rights bill: got citizenship for all backs born in america. 14th amendment: guarantees equal protection for all u. s. citizens. Johnson did not want the 14th amendment to be made. Civil rights act of 1875- prohibited discrimination based on color in public places. Ex: blacks didn"t have to move when whites got on the bus, and no separation. Economic depression: working class cannot make money. State government grew together because the federal government was getting to much power.
