Young children lean appropriate and inappropriate behaviour through caregiver. Most effective way to promote good behaviour: positive reinforcement. Inductive discipline: involves highlighting consequences of one"s actions on others while disciplining them. Encourage dev. of empathy (& guilt) and increase pro-social behaviour in children. Can interact through parental demandingness (expectations of child) and parental responsiveness (support) Authoritative: unlikely to phys. discipline, give reason behind rules; have firm rules but allow children freedom within boundaries. Children socially competent and self-confident; best overall outcomes.
