Document Summary
Analyze the role of observation and role models in social development. Explain the effect of punishment and discipline on social development. Assess the contribution of parenting styles to the creation of pro-social behaviours. Anyone in our environment can be a model (parent, family, friends, tv characters), but not every model has the same amount of influence on our environment. Our parents dominate our social world in our early life, and we learn how to interact with others from them. As we enter preschool, our social influences expand to include friends and teachers. By the time we reach adolescence, our social sphere is quite large, and we begin to learn more from our friends than we did when we were younger. In every generation in a social species, the individuals with the greatest ability to outsmart their competitors will be most likely to survive and mate.
