Double jeopardy= the idea that you can"t be tried/ you can"t prosecute someone for the same crime twice. However, in this example, oj was prosecuted in criminal court not found guilty, and then sued in civil court). Civil standard is much easier to meet/ prove. Deep pockets=suing someone with a lot of money. Appeal= go at it (a case) again in a higher court. In a criminal case, only the criminal can appeal (not the federal gov) only the defendant in a criminal case can appeal. In a civil case, whoever lost (meaning either the plaintiff or the defendant) can appeal. Every state in this country follows: the lowest level federal court = united states district court. If someone wants to bring an action to federal court, they bring it to the u. s district court. Presidents appoint the federal judges- prestigious position.
