Infants around 1 year old: sucking on everything as an infant. Identification with same-sex parent: stage 4: latency period, ages 6-12, relatively calm. Guilt: ages 4-6, facilitated by parents who are not too controlling. Identify with parents, set goals, internalize rules: stage 4: industry vs. inferiority, ages 6-puberty, facilitated through successful experiences. Learning cultural social norms, playing/working with others: stage 5: identity vs. role confusion, adolescence to early adulthood, establishing an identity, answering "who am i?" Learning theories: all behavior is under environmental control! And behavior is the only thing that is objectively verifiable. John b. watson: development governed by social environments, especially parents, he ignored mental states, and emphasized condition. Little albert: conditioned a baby to be afraid of everything, b. f. skinner, operant conditioning, repeat positively reinforced behavior, suppress negatively reinforced behavior, contributions, attention: powerful reinforcer, children do things to get attention.
