BIOSC-116 Lecture Notes - Lecture 17: Hemoglobin, Mitosis, Cell Division
Document Summary
Discuss the difficulties of defining the terms health" and disease" one or two of these areas but lacking in the other. Health: health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease of infirmity (who definition) A view on well-being and health are subjective. Three areas of health to consider (physical, mental, social) individuals can be healthy" in. Perception and feeling of well-being are very changeable overtime. Does this include all body functions or just the essential ones e. g. heart, lungs etc. Example: the factors that define a baby with normal" bodily function and is health will differ from elderly people. Outline how the function of genes, mitosis, cell differentiation and specialisation assist in the maintenance of health. Genes: are sections of dna which code for polypeptides which form proteins for cell functions. Cftr is a transport protein which carries chloride ions across membranes.
