Document Summary

Johann gregor mendel - considered the father of genetics. When he presented his results, most people couldn"t understand it or know if they should believe him. Simplicityis it green or is it yellow: pure stocks, experimental approach, thorough. Alleles are just different forms of the same gene. Locus - physical location where the gene is on the chromosome. What is seen as a result of the genotype. Only the genotype is inherited, not the phenotype. Monohybrid cross: he cut off the the pollen because he wanted to create a female plant since these pea plants are self pollinating. Reciprocal cross: helps show that it doesn"t matter which sex the parent is, the genetic information is getting passed down the same way. He forms the hybrid or the f1 generation. He saw that one of the phenotypes was present and the other was gone. In the f2 generation he saw that lost phenotype came back from the p generation.
