Document Summary

Amount of base pairs/dna does not signify complexity. Prokaryotes - a lot of dna, usually one circular chromosome, not very constricted inside the sell. Nucleus - where majority of dna and genetic information is. Mitochondrion - also have their own genome. Viruses are not cells but they do contain nucleic acid and genetic information. More related to their host than another virus. End result: 2 genetically identical daughter cells. Entire set of chromosomes from mom, an entire set from dad (homologous pairs) You can have different alleles in a set of chromosomes. If you lose this, you will most likely lose your chromosome. Need this for cellular division, kinetochore forms around this. Can also use these to count chromosomes. The cell cycle - essential for division process. G0 - where cells go when they don"t re enter the cell cycle. Can still re enter even after being in g0. G1/s checkpoint - commitment to beginning the cell cycle.
