SPE 323 Lecture Notes - Lecture 8: Age Appropriateness, Reinforcement
Document Summary
Positive reinforcement: increases future chance of response. Secondary reinforcers: thumbs up, high five, back pat, smile. Tangible reinforcers: anything you can hold in hand and should not eat. Token reinforcers: have value in themselves; medal. Social reinforcers: extra social time, lunch w/ principal. Deprivation: no access to it, dont have it, dont want it. Satiation: have too much of it, sick of it. Let student choose reinforcers and have variety (3 or 4) of edible reinforcers to choose from. At beginning of satiation, switch to diff reinforcer. Shorter sessions with less trials (controlled presentations) decreases chances of satiation. Decrease size of the edible reinforcers (e. g. , mini m&ms) Do not provide reinforcer for every correct response. Contracting: works with high functioning, older kids; write contract to set conditions for reinforcement of observable, measurable, good behavior. If, then statement the behavior the conditions the criterion (observable, measurable) the reinforcer. Provides permanent document that records variables of original contingency.
