SPE 323 Lecture Notes - Lecture 9: Reinforcement, Token Economy, Aversives
Document Summary
Selected intervention should be based on the identified function of the challenging behavior. Movement along hierarchy must be data based. Point of consultation and permission must be established. Using reinforcement based procedures to decrease behavior either by contingently reinforcing behavior on a differential basis or using reinforcement in a noncontingent manner. Behavior (drl): when (conditions) & what extent you pay attention to kid; reduce problem behavior to acceptable rate. Differential reinforcement of other behaviors (dro): reinforcing kid for everything but problem behavior; extinct (ignore) problem behavior. Behaviors (dri): reward for opposite of problem behavior; ex- reward for showing up on time instead of late. Behaviors (dra): pick appropriate replacement behavior; ex- for chatty kid, reward if they whisper when they need to talk. Application of specific reinforcement schedule used to decrease behavior rate that, while tolerable in low rates, are still inappropriate when they happen too often.
