Yet at the same time king himself had become more of a risk taker, becoming more radicalized. In the aftermath of the civil rights act of 1964 passing and the voting rights act of 1965, king began to focus more on economic justice, economic opportunities for african americans. There was something known as defacto-segregation (that (cid:271)ei(cid:374)g (cid:272)o(cid:448)ert for(cid:373)s of segregatio(cid:374)(cid:895), it (cid:449)as(cid:374)"t (cid:271)lata(cid:374)t (cid:271)ut it (cid:449)as (cid:272)o(cid:448)ert i(cid:374) itself that (cid:449)ere still being practiced in the south. And during that time king also confessed that it would be harder to eliminate the covert forms of segregation as opposed to the blatant forms. 1963 the naacp had taken a survey in the city of boston which showed that boston spent yearly for each white student attending boston public schools.
