100 years since the first intelligence test: francis galton: brain size. Thought that smart people could give birth to smart children, therefore people who were not smart should not have children (they were sterilized) 1800s measuring intelligence by measuring the persons head size. Bigger the head, the more smart you were. Men have bigger head than woman -> since men have bigger head they are smarter. Intelligence is dependent on neuron connections: alfred binet and theodore simon: school assessment of low ability. Early 1900s, french minister asked they to design a test to located school children with low ability. French minister wanted this test so that he could put the kids in specific classrooms to get more help. Came up with some unique tasks in order to find these students. Color beads attached to a string, hid behind the back and asked them say the color.
