PSYC 327 Lecture Notes - Lecture 20: Time, Observational Learning, Bowling Pin
Document Summary
If you reinforce every time, you use up all the treats. And out in the world, and if he always gets a treat for sitting and he doesn"t, he will be upset. So ultimate goal is for behavior to happen without need for reinforcement. Behavior can become self reinforcing: dog does what a wants she doesn"t need to give him treats (scratching and petting him) Ratio (means number) schedules: instances of behavior and number of times they do target behavior. With puppy, giving him treat every 3rd time (sit, sit, sit, treat)= Fixed ratio schedule: they are good and predictable. They figure out that when you get to third time, they get treat. Etc until the average is three times = variable ratio: reinforce on average of certain number of times: you can make variable ratio higher (from 3, to 5 to 7) and then eventually phase it out.
