Document Summary
Developmental pragmatics: pragmatics: skills most children are expected to develop by age three. Other sorts that children develop earlier (smiling and gesturing) but more formalized by age three: social language rules. 3 areas that rules fall in to. Children should be able to identify and make requests for objects. Ex: children should be able to ask for. Children should be able to identify actions and request them. Ex: children should ask for help when they need it. To help children become more independent, parents need to teach children to ask for help not just assume they need it and give it to them. Children should be able to describe tasks. Children should register denials for assertions or actions that are the opposite of what they are trying to accomplish. Children should ask for a spoon but given a fork and should be able to say. I asked for a spoon not a fork .
