If warranted based on information in petition, move to status review. If not warranted, nmfs/fws publish notice of rejection in federal register. Comprehensive assessments of a species biological status and its threats. Species that have been petitioned for listing. Currently listed species have to go through review every 5 years. A species must be listed if it is threatened or endangered due to any of five factors: Present or threatened destruction, modification, or curtailment of habitat or range. Overutilization for commercial, recreational, scientific, or educational purposes.
