Document Summary
Every family in the land - there"s no family that doesn"t have mental illness in it. Daly"s : disability adjusted life year - how many years you"ve lived, how many years are in front of you, and how your disability affects the years in front of you. 4/10 of the most impairing illnesses in the world, were mental disorders. Need to study typical development to understand atypical development. Normal and atypical development are mutually informative. You can"t look under the hood of a car to fix it, if you don"t know how the car should be working. Heterotypic continuity: underlying behavioral trait that manifests differently at different points in development. Homotypic continuity: underlying trait manifests the same way in different points in life. I. e. being depressed or sad, that feeling at age 2, 12, 22, etc. is the same. Can look at psychopathology from different avenues - genetically, behavior, behavior in the context of environment, societally (continually zooming out)
