Light and electron microscopy: light microscope : illuminates body tissue with a beam of light, lower magnification viewing, transmission electron microscope : uses a beam of electrons, higher magnification viewing. Scanning electron microscopy : provides three-dimensional pictures of whole, unsectioned clarity. Artifacts : preservation of tissue with each preparatory step introducing minor distortions (artifacts)
