All right, so let"s say you"ve created something, you own copyrights. And it"s a surprise to some people to find out that it means you have the right to sue somebody, privately, for infringement. There is one formality, in order to sue you actually have to register the copyright. A lot of people don"t register their copyrights. You don"t have to register in order to own the rights. But in order to sue, the government wants you to pay the fee and own a copyright registration. Once you have the registration, then you have the right to stop people in court. In most cases you can"t, because when people copy you they usually lie about it. Well because, they"re the kind of people that infringe copyrights. And they tend to be the very kind of people who lie about copying. So, they"re going to deny that they copied. You will rarely have a case where somebody admits that they copied.
