The original foundation for diffusion of innovation theory came from gabriel tarde who plotted an s-curve to show the rate where ideas were adopted. In 1943, the adoption process was explored more by bryce ryan and neal gross. They studied hybrid seeds and their diffusion amongst farmers in iowa. One of the most important findings from this came from categorizing farmers based on the amount of time it took them to adopt innovation. However, the theory we know today came from everett rogers in the 60"s. His definition of diffusion of innovation: the process of how innovation sis communication through particular channels over time by members of a certain social system. Innovation is an idea, practice, or even an object that is seen as new by someone or units of adoption. Innovators can take and be seen as many forms. They could have a new product or service or even a differentiation of something that already exists.
