JOUR 625 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Cyberbullying, Dominick Fernow, Revenge Porn
Document Summary
The internet has brought new challenges to regulating undesirable sexually explicit content. The core of these challenges is the belief in protecting expression under the first amendment. Using communication more online has transformed these challenged to a concern that appears every day amongst employers, parents, and communicators. These people look to limit the receiving and exchanging of sexual pictures, texts, and other content. With the growth of social media, its power to spread harm has increased. Revenge porn has become a way to cyberbully others online. Whether it"s from adults intimidating children or exes sharing sexual photos without the person"s permission, the law has not prepared enough to deal with this increase seen on social media. Electronic communication technological developments and tools on social media has opened the door for criminal and civil litigation. The internet is a perfect way to deliver these things because you can do it anonymously.
