Went around and collected the taxes before the romans could do it believed in mosaic law = written code of behavior, but was very rigid and told you what to do. Most populous group of all the jews in palestine the regular people living day-to-day lives, paying taxes, farming believed in oral tradition believed that everyone should be practicing morality.
