Anatomy- study of the structure of an organism. Physiology- study of the functions of an organism why are animals the way they are? they have evolved by natural selection, different environments have different niches. Body plan results from a pattern of development programmed by genome, constrained by external environment. Hydrodynamics- being able to maneuver underwater. every one is shaped like streamline, narrow in front, then follows behind. can affect where fins are placed etc. in the body plan. Epithelial -covers or coats surfaces, made from sheets of packed cells. lines organs and cavities (layers) simple: one layer, uniform. Stratified: multiple layers (shapes) squamous: flat like floor tiles. Ex: : : simple squamous: blood vessels, air sacs in lungs, main function is exchange. Connective - matrix of cells scarred in a web of fibers embedded in a liquid, jellylike, or solid foundation . used to bind and support other tissues.
