Animal clades and phyla we will cover. : is clade the name for all animals. Parazoa ( beside animals ): is the name for just sponges. : is a gelatinous extracellular matrix with proteins, support particles, and cells within in it. Amoebocytes: amoeboid cells that digest food particles, make support fibers, and become other cell types. Choancyte (aka collar cells): food capturing cells; create water current. Embedded in mesohyl with flagellum projecting into canals and/or spongocoel. Collar (choancyte) captures and phagocytosis the food particles. Flagellum create a current which makes water pass over sieve like collar. Water pass through collar and current created by flagella pushes it out and away. Choanocytes get food and pass on to amoebocytes. They diffuse it into the individual cells. No nerves or nervous system as far as we know. Myocytes: cells that can contract to change pore size. Sperm carried out and taken to egg in another sponge.
