Document Summary

System of linguistic philosophy developed by alfred korzybski (1879 1950), which explores the arbitrary nature of words and symbols and attempts to refine ways of using language. Need to unearth assumptions to improve language and humanity. We need to start becoming aware how our symbols and thoughts relate to the real world around us. Alfred says to us the word is not the thing. and the map is not the territory. Map means more than charting land and includes understanding concepts of everyday life, such as how we see marriage. Non-identities two things are always unique and different, no two things are identical to each other things change over time but we don"t notice these differences because we"re so busy and distracted. Non-allness no description is ever complete, there is always more to the story you have to constantly challenge your own thoughts. Self-reflexiveness referring to or discussing itself or its own creation.
