Pols 2910 week 2 readings (chapter 1) Politics arises from the scarcity, limiting stock on people"s desires such as wealth, clean air, water, social recognition etc. , causes conflict to arise & that"s where politicians come in to play to resolve rival claims. Politics: the activity by which rival claims are settled by public authorities. The boundaries of what is considered to be political are located were the state"s authority reaches, known as the public realm past this line is the private realm where the states authority doesn"t reach. According to foucault marx & feminist movements politics is the relations between bosses and workers in a coportation ; between parents and children in a family; between teachers and students in a school; According to locke & easton politics relate to aristole"s conception of the greek polis so its based on the association of a system of settling disputes that is both public and binding on the whole community.
