Unit eleven: science, technology and world war i: wwi was a 20th century war fought with 19th century tactics , wwi (1914-1918): 10m lives lost,2x more wounded. Often called the great war or war to end all wars because at that time, people never believed a war of this scale could ever happen again: wwii tells us another story. You have to understand the main elements of the war to understand the technology that affected this time period. Understanding the role of science and technology in wwi in large part is based on understanding the mixed attitudes people had towards technology and the problems associated with battle strategy. This is best explained by the following important quote: wwi was a 20th century war fought with 19th century tactics . Countries often try to one up other countries. The use of technology is used with this particular attitude of trying to be better than others.
