KINE 1020 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: World Health Organization, Ontario Health Insurance Plan, Health Promotion
Document Summary
The world health organization states that health is a state of complete, physical, mental and social well-being, not merely the absence of disease, and that (cid:498)the enjoyment of the highest attainable health is a fundamental human right(cid:499). Environment, genetics, behaviours and the community and society an individual lives in all influence health. The health care system is meant to describe the infrastructure that helps individuals be healthy, treat disease and live longer; includes hospitals, the health care personnel, drugs and equipment. Canadian health care is a combination of public and private plans. Canadian government-sponsored public plan is available to all citizens that cover almost all elements of health care. Medications are typically covered to some degree by private health insurance plans that are usually available though employment benefits. In the united states, there are also some government-sponsored programs mainly for low income or senior citizens, but the vast majority of citizens have health care through their employer.
