Jesus welcomed women as his followers, he hung out with a lot of different people (prostitutes (mary magdolin, tax collectors, etc) all forms of people. In the beginning baptism was used in judaism as purification, christianity picked that up. John the baptist baptized jesus: baptism welcomes people into the community to be baptized, by insisting he is identifying himself with all of us that have sins, most christian branches don"t do full body submerging.
