Gender: social roles people are expected because of their sex. Beliefs and behaviours considered appropriate for each sex. A relational category: related to social heircharies and social inequalities) sex: biological distinctions (chromosomal, hormonal or physical differences) Observable physical characteristics (two kinds of humans, needed for biological reproduction) in our society we see sex and gender as being similar things. Existing or occurring in two distinct forms in sexual dimorphism, male and female may vary in color, size or some other trait. Biology will determine whether you will think or act like a man or a women and how you will be treated and perceived by others. Socialization of gender: from the day babies are brought home from hospital baby experience enculturalization. One is not born a women, one becomes a women. Because the concept of women or men are socially constructed we try to fit into these categories as we grow up.
