Distinguishing the differences between certain stages in life, infancy, childhood, adolescence etc. Adolescence marks the transition between childhood and adulthood. We will look at the first four for the purposes of this class so do not read sections on teens and adolescence in the text. Development marks the changes in structure of thoughts or behaviours from environmental and biological influences. Physical (biological: changes in the outside of the body as well as internal changes like hormones and glands anything really, changes in motor development, athletic abilities, etc. Cognitive: all mental abilities and activities related to thinking and problem solving, perception, reasoning, memory, creativity, language. Social/emotional: personality, interpersonal skills, emotions, self-concept, social skills, our reactions and behaviours to things. A segmented or modular approach would be to isolate one of the three interconnected domains and study it specifically. Orderly, integrated set of statements that describes, explains, and predicts behaviour.
