Karl marx would argue that the law is how powerful people protect their own interests. Con ict deviance - disagreement among groups over whether or not something is deviant i. e. sex work, marijuana use, tattoos. Fear plays an important role in constructions of reality. Racializing deviance: linking particular ethnic groups - especially visible minorities - with certain forms of deviance: deviance is racialized through racial pro ling, a person"s otherness is used as grounds for differential treatment ie. carding. Gender and deviance: in patriarchal society (one dominated by men) male is normal and female is seen as inherently deviant (the other, images of women are often constructed in ways that contain and re ect misogyny. Transgender women, of colour, who are of lower ses have the highest murder rate. Subculture theory: albert cohen - argues delinquency is a learned behaviour, individuals from lower-class backgrounds experiences status frustration, failure to succeed in middle-class institutions, can become socialized into an oppositional subculture.
